When it comes to towing vehicles on roads or highways, you have plenty of options. Between gooseneck hitch plates, a pintle hook hitch, and ball mount hitches, it’s usually pretty easy to find a good attachment method that allows you to tow from point A to point B.

In the world of lawn care and yard maintenance, though, your options are a bit more limited. It can be tough to find the right connector for your ATV hitch, your UTV hitch, or your lawn tractor hitch.

Good Vibrations Hitchin’ Post+ Towing Methods

Not all lawn tractor and lawn mower attachments are designed to be towed the same way. Some require a hitch pin, some work with a tow ball, and still others rely on a rope or chains. That’s why the Hitchin’ Post+ is compatible with three towing methods in one hitch plate:

  • A 1-7/8" ball hitch
  • A pin-hitch hole
  • Dual tow loops

The tow loops are pretty easy to use and understand. You can attach ropes, chains, or hooks to them for easy towing. And since there are two loops, you can add a second rope or chain for safety and redundancy.

The tow ball is useful, too, but it’s important to note its specific size: 1-7/8". Tow balls are generally made in four common sizes:

  • 1-7/8" tow hitch balls
  • 2” tow hitch balls
  • 2-5/16” tow hitch balls
  • 3” tow hitch balls

1-7/8" balls are designed for lightweight attachments and small vehicles. The Hitchin’ Post+ is designed for offroad use only and should never be used to tow trucks or vehicles on roads or highways.

Finally, there’s the pin-hitch hole. Hitchin’ Post+ features a ¾” hole on the end of it. Any hitch pins with a diameter larger than that won’t fit. Your best bet is to use a King Pin or an Auto Lock Magnetic Hitch Pin, both of which feature a ½” diameter.

Good Vibrations Hitchin’ Post+ Applicable Vehicles

As we mentioned, the Hitchin’ Post+ is designed for offroad use only. You should not use it to tow vehicles or trailers on roads or highways.

Instead, it’s made to be used on relatively lightweight vehicles to tow relatively lightweight attachments. Some of the most common of these vehicles include:

  • All-terrain vehicles (ATVs)
  • Utility terrain vehicles (UTVs)
  • Lawn tractors
  • Riding lawn mowers

Installing a Hitchin’ Post+ on your vehicle is very easy. It comes with just three components:

  • The hitch plate itself
  • The tow ball
  • A ⅝” hex head bolt

The bottom of the tow ball and its installation slot on the hitch plate are oval-shaped with straight edges. This makes it easier for the tow ball to stay in place during installation. The plate itself also features an angled groove on its underside which helps to line the plate up properly on the vehicle hitch.

After the plate is in place on the hitch and the tow ball is placed in the proper spot in the ovular groove, you simply tighten the bolt into the threaded hole in the bottom of the tow ball. You can get the bolt going with your finger and, once it’s finger-tight, just finish it off with a 15/16” wrench.

So, the Hitchin’ Post+ features multiple towing methods, it works on multiple vehicles, and it’s easy to install. The last question to consider is, “What can it tow?”

Given its three towing methods, the Hitchin’ Post is very versatile, capable of towing a variety of riding mower and tractor attachments. Some of the most common attachments include:

  • Carry-on trailer
  • Pull-behind lawn aerator
  • Pull-behind dethatcher
  • Pull-behind lawn sweeper
  • Dump cart

Essentially, it can help to attach anything that makes lawn mowing, yard work, and light farm work simpler.

Use it to attach a carry-on trailer to haul away dead wood from a fallen tree. Use it to connect a lawn sweeper to gather leaves on your land during the fall. Use it to attach a dump cart to transport mulch, soil, or dirt more quickly.

You can even use the Hitchin’ Post+ to haul other vehicles like boats, go-karts, golf carts, and more. Just be sure not to exceed the towing capacity of the vehicle on which you’re using it.

Should You Get a Hitchin’ Post+?

From applicable vehicles to installation to common attachments, that’s just about all there is to known about the Hitchin’ Post+. It’s a versatile yet simple vehicle upgrade that allows you to accomplish a number of tasks with ease and efficiency.

But should you get one for yourself?

For those who seldom use (or don’t have) ATVs, UTVs, lawn tractors, or riding mowers, a hitch plate probably isn’t something you should buy. Also, you should avoid Hitchin’ Post+ if you’re looking to tow a car, truck, or large trailer and get something more robust and road-friendly instead.

But if you’re looking to mow more efficiently, haul more easily, and hitch seamlessly between your vehicle and offroad attachment, Hitchin’ Post+ is a great option for you. Give it a try — at less than $30 MSRP, it’s hard to go wrong.
