HY-GUARD EXCLUSION Pest Armor: An In-Depth Look
September 13th, 2024 | 5 min. read
Keeping relatively large critters like raccoons, birds, and squirrels out of homes is hard enough. But when it comes to sealing out smaller nuisances like mice, bats, and insects while still permitting that all-important ventilation, the challenge becomes that much greater.
At HY-C, we offer several nuisance wildlife exclusion solutions under our HY-GUARD EXCLUSION brand name. And to help wildlife control operators offer small-pest exclusion options for their customers, we developed what we call Pest Armor.
The lineup consists of two categories of products:
- Pest Armor profiles
- Pest Armor panels
In this guide, we’re going to take a close look at the different types of profiles and panels offered under the Pest Armor name. We’ll cover their sizes, their prices, how best to use them, and plenty more.
By the time you’re finished here, you’ll understand the ins and outs of Pest Armor, and you’ll know how to utilize it to help keep your customers’ homes pest-free.

Pest Armor Profiles
There are three different profiles into which lengths of Pest Armor are bent:
- High profile Z-mesh
- Low profile Z-mesh
- L-Mesh
Let’s take a look at each of these profiles and see how they’re used.
High Profile Z-Mesh
Of all the types of Pest Armor we manufacture, the High Profile Z-mesh is undoubtedly the most successful. Its bent flange on the end is designed to dig tightly into whatever surface it’s attached to, providing maximum coverage and minimal pest entry.
Even in this particular category of Pest Armor, there are an additional three types to consider:
- ¼” High Profile Z-Mesh
- ⅜” High Profile Z-Mesh
- Pest Armor Ultimate
¼” High Profile Z-Mesh
Ideal for roof deck vents, foundation/siding gaps, roof offsets, and plenty more applications, ¼” High Profile Z-Mesh is made from galvanized steel and finished with an industry-best rust-proof powder coat. The quarter-inch mesh is plenty tight enough to keep out mice, rats, and bats, as well as large insects like wasps, bees, hornets, stink bugs, and cicadas.
Each package of ¼” High Profile Z-Mesh Pest Armor provides a total of 160 linear feet of coverage for any gaps present on the home. The hardware needed for installation is also included.
This style of Pest Armor is available in two lengths to accommodate a variety of installation jobs:
- 40 pieces of 48-inch lengths (MSRP: $735.49)
- 21 pieces of 91-inch lengths (MSRP: $77199)
The combination of its black powder coat and its z-shaped profile make High Profile Z-Mesh an aesthetically appealing exclusion solution that won’t detract from the appearance of the home on which it’s installed.
⅜” High-Profile Z-Mesh
The ⅜-inch iteration of the High-Profile Z-Mesh features a wider mesh than its ¼-inch counterpart. It’s more prone to being bypassed by bugs like bees and wasps, but it still seals out mice, rats, bats, and other critters with plenty of room to spare.
On the plus side, its wider mesh makes it easier to bend and adapt to the surface on which it’s being installed. Also, wider mesh means more airflow, which helps to prevent mold and mildew caused by moisture buildup.
The thing wildlife control operators most appreciate about ⅜” High Profile Z-Mesh, though, is its price point relative to other types of Pest Armor. It comes 40 pieces to a box in 48-inch lengths with an MSRP of $699.99.
Pest Armor Ultimate
What makes Pest Armor “Ultimate” deserving of such a lofty name? Well, unlike other iterations of Pest Armor, Pest Armor Ultimate is made of stainless steel — an uncompromising material that’s ultra-tough and ultra-dependable.
When galvanized steel is installed on homes within 25 miles of a saltwater coast, it corrodes over time. With its stainless steel construction, Pest Armor Ultimate is meant to remedy that issue. It can stand up to the harsh sea air without degrading.
It still comes with a black powder coat finish, and like the ¼” High Profile Z-Mesh, it uses ¼-inch mesh. It comes in a box of 40 pieces that are each 48 inches long.
Stainless steel commands a high price — that’s why a box of Pest Armor Ultimate has an MSRP of $1,349.99. But if you’re doing an exclusion job within 25 miles of a saltwater coast, it’s the best option to help you avoid some angry calls a few years down the line.
Low Profile Z-Mesh
Like ¼” High Profile Z-Mesh and Pest Armor Ultimate, Low Profile Z-Mesh utilizes a tight ¼” mesh that keeps out everything from bees to raccoons. It also comes standard with the signature rust-proof black powder coat paint finish.
What makes it “Low Profile,” though? That’s easy: its dimensions. This type of Pest Armor is designed for roof offsets, roof deck vents, and siding gaps just like the other profiles. The difference is that it’s best used in situations where High Profile Z-Mesh would be too large.
It’s available in two different lengths:
- 40 pieces of 48-inch lengths (MSRP: $735.99)
- 21 pieces of 91-inch lengths (MSRP: $807.59)
Both sets of lengths provide 160 linear feet of coverage that can be used on one big job or multiple smaller jobs.
L-Mesh
Designed to be the catch-all, universal Pest Armor solution, L-Mesh is pretty straightforward. It’s an L-shaped length of metal mesh used to cover foundation gaps, gaps between a chimney and the rest of the house, dormer gaps, and more. But perhaps one of its most useful applications is on solar panels.
Solar panels contain wires and other electrical components underneath to convert solar energy into electricity. The panels themselves typically rest several inches off the roof, making these components vulnerable to the teeth and claws of any critter that crawls underneath.
L-Mesh installs easily into the roof, resting nicely against the side of the solar panel to keep critters out. It’s available in 3-½” and 5-½” heights to accommodate a variety of solar panel dimensions.
L-Mesh provides 80 total feet of linear coverage. It comes 40 pieces to a package in 48-inch lengths. Cost-wise, a box of L-mesh has an MSRP of $425.49.
Pest Armor Panels
While they’re very versatile, Pest Armor profiles are designed with specific applications in mind. Pest Armo panels, on the other hand, offer nearly endless wildlife exclusion possibilities.
These ¼-inch mesh panels measure 28 inches by 31-¼ inches for 30 square feet of exclusion coverage. Made of galvanized steel, they’re much more resilient than bug screen or hardware cloth, keeping out squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons, mice, bats, and rats, as well as large stinging insects.
Most often, they’re used on gable end vents to keep critters out of attics. But their cut-to-fit capability makes the applications of Pest Armor panels limited only to your imagination. You can use them to cover a number of vents and vulnerabilities on houses, apartments, condos, and more.
They’re available either with a black powder coat or a white powder coat to match the aesthetics of nearly any home. The powder coat also provides rust-proof protection. They’re available in 5-piece sets with an MSRP of $195.19.
