Nowadays, more and more homeowners are filling their sheds and garages with electric lawn mowers and ditching their old gas-powered models. Battery and charging technology have advanced to the point where mowing a half-acre or more with an electric mower is completely viable, and manufacturers everywhere are working hard to meet that demand.
That’s both a blessing and a curse, though. While there are plenty of makes and models of electric mowers on the market, it can be difficult to find the right one for you. How much battery power do you need, anyway? How much should you spend? What makes each mower different?
At HY-C, we manufacture a line of outdoor power equipment upgrades for a wide spectrum of lawn care equipment. And in this guide, we’re going to walk you through five of the best electric lawn mowers on the market today.
We’ll cover battery and charger capacities, the cost of each mower, special features and functions, and much more.
By the time you’re finished here, you’ll be ready to pick the right battery-powered mower to suit your needs.

Electric Lawn Mower List Criteria
To be clear, we didn’t pick just any electric mowers for this list. Each model was intensely researched and had to meet certain specifications and thresholds to be included here.
For example:
- Each electric mower on this list had to have at least 650 online reviews
- Each electric mower on this list had to average at least a 4.0 out of 5
Also, the prices on this list reflect the cost of the mower itself and an included battery and charger (though if you already have the right accessories, most of these models are available for purchase without a battery or charger to help save a bit of money).
Finally, we made sure to include only one mower per brand.
With all of that out of the way, let’s get into it.

Featuring a 20-gallon grass bag and a 3-position handlebar, the STIHL RMA 510 is built with many of the same amenities as its gas-powered counterparts. Its 21-inch cutting deck is fairly standard, as is its available mulching, bagging, and discharge chute mowing options.
The mower comes with one of STIHL’s AP 300 S batteries and a base-level AL 101 battery charger. The stock battery provides around 40 minutes of runtime and takes around three-and-a-half hours to recharge, which isn’t bad for items included in the box with the mower.
If you find you need a bit more mowing time, you can opt for a 9.4 Ah AP 500S battery to take your mowing times to around 1 hour. If you want to charge up more quickly, STIHL also offers an AL 301 Rapid charger and an AL 500 High-Speed charger for $110 and $180, respectively.
For this mower, though, the proof is in the reviews. With 660 ratings averaging out to 4.7 out of 5 (at the time of writing), this well-lauded battery-powered mower has pleased homeowners all over the country. Its $599.99 price tag is about average for this list, making this mower a great choice.

We could probably very easily do a list covering just the top 5 EGO electric mowers. It seems like every model the company makes is a hit. For this list, though, we’re zeroing in on their POWER+ 21” model. And it’s got plenty to love.
EGO bills it as “the first lithium-ion mower to exceed the power of gas.” And it is plenty strong, too; the POWER+ 21” comes with a 56-volt battery that provides 45 minutes of runtime to tackle small to medium-sized yards. The included charger is fantastic as well, offering recharge times as low as 40 minutes.
And if that’s still not enough for you, you can upgrade to the 7.5 Ah battery for 65 minutes or runtime or the 10 Ah battery for a staggering 85 minutes of runtime.
The mower itself comes with a pair of powerful LED headlights on the front, allowing you to mow in low-light conditions. It folds up for convenient storage when not in use, and EGO even offers a mower cover to keep it safe from the elements.
The POWER+ 21” is undoubtedly one of the best battery-powered lawn mowers available today, let alone on this list. Over 3,600 customer reviews don’t lie — and somehow, it only costs $429.

Existing under the Lowe’s umbrella, Kobalt provides a plethora of tools and power tools alike. And in the electric lawn mower space, the brand’s 80-Volt self-propelled model makes quite a name for itself against some stiff competition.
The eye-catching cobalt-blue (get it?) machine can support a number of different Kobalt batteries. But in a pleasant surprise, the battery/charger pairing Kobalt supplies with the mower is the best available, departing from the familiar model of only including mid-tier options with electric mowers.
The included 80-volt, 6 Ah battery can go for about 60 minutes from full to empty, providing plenty of time to cut decently sized yards. And when it’s time to recharge, the 80 volt charger will get the mower back to work in about 90 minutes.
This self-propelled, rear-wheel-drive stalwart has an onboard indicator to let you know just how much battery life you have left, and its collapsible handles make it easy to stow.
Topped off with a 5-year warranty for the mower itself and a 3-year warranty on the batteries, the Kobalt 80-Volt does have the highest asking price on this list at $699. Even still, there’s plenty to love about this blue beast to make the purchase plenty worth it.

It’s time to talk about Toro — specifically the 60V Max, an electrified version of the brand’s Recycler® gas-powered mower.
This model features the same Personal Pace® technology that adjusts effortlessly to your walking speed for a smooth and natural self-propelled mowing experience. It’s also made with Toro’s SmartStow® design for easy storage in tight spaces.
On the electrical end of the spectrum, the 60V Max comes with a 6 Ah battery, the second-best in Toro’s seven-battery lineup (lagging behind only the 7.5 Ah version). On a full charge, it’ll keep you mowing for about 40 minutes (or around one third of an acre).
On the charging front, Toro makes three chargers for this mower and supplies you with the middle-of-the-road option: a 2-amp version that will charge the included battery in about 3 hours. For just $30 more, you could spring for the 5.4-amp model that will get you going again in less than half the time.
For a company that’s been making gas-powered lawn mowers for decades, Toro’s foray into electric mowers has been solid. Their 60V Max will set you back $629 — a bit pricey to be sure, but Toro rarely misses the mark on quality.

Found exclusively at Home Depot, RYOBI outdoor power equipment is well-known for its utilitarian construction and affordability. In their line of electric mowers, the 40-volt model stands out, offering near-similar performance specs as other mowers that cost more than twice as much.
The brand’s modular battery system means there are several battery capacity options. There are six available for their mower series alone, and RYOBI supplies a mid-range 6 Ah version with their 40V mower. It’s capable of runtimes up to 45 minutes (and should you need more, there are 7.5 Ah and 8 Ah batteries available).
The included 40V Fast Charger isn’t half bad, recharging the included battery in an hour and a half. Though again, if you want options, there are alternatives available. The 40V Rapid Charger recharges in just 1 hour, the 40V Hyper Charger recharges in 30 minutes, and the 40V Dual Port Rapid Charger allows you to charge two batteries at once for maximum efficiency.
Regarding the mower itself, RYOBI touts its power — “more power than a 150cc gas mower,” they say. Interestingly, the mower can adjust its blade speed to account for easy and tough mowing conditions to balance performance and battery life. It also features an LED fuel gauge, and there’s even an extra-capacity grass bag available should you want it.
With 1,061 user reviews at the time of writing, the RYOBI 40V has an average score of 4.0 out of 5 — the lowest on our list. Despite this, its $329 price tag is virtually unbeatable in its category. If you’re on a budget, it’s a fantastic electric lawn mower for the money.
